Wine Events: Week of April 11

Last week saw a slew of wine events come through the Bay Area.  The Cobb Wines tasting at Jardiniere particularly stood out for the quality of the wine, and the intimacy of the setting.  Ross Cobb is making some stunning Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast, and attendees had ample opportunity to talk with Ross and his father David (who planted their Coastlands Vineyard back in 1989).  If you ever have a chance to try these low production wines, don’t pass it up!  [HINT: you’ll have more opportunities to taste Ross’ handiwork, now that he’s the winemaker at Hirsch Vineyards.]

More good things to look forward to this week.  I’m planning to continue my old world wine studies at Arlequin on Thursday for their Burgundy tasting, and hope to see some of you there!

Last minute addition:  my favorite Pac Heights Indian restaurant, DOSA, is throwing a wine pairing dinner, interspersed with three independent short films this Tuesday night.  Only a few seats left.  Tickets are $60, and can be purchased here.

Thurs., Apr. 14: Burgundy Tasting at Arlequin (Hayes Valley)

Arlequin Wine Merchants
384 Hayes Street
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 8:00pm ($20)

How many times have you heard a California winemaker refer to their Pinot Noir as “Burgundian?”  Ever wonder what the heck they meant by it?  Well, try some wines from Cote de Nuits this Thursday at Arlequin, and discover the style that so many Pinot producers try to reproduce.

Thurs., Apr. 14: Copain Tasting at K&L Wines (SoMa)

K&L Wines
638 4th Street
San Francisco, CA

5:00pm – 6:30pm ($5)

Thankfully for those of us who like Anderson Valley wines, Copain has had a series of tasting events in San Francisco over the past few weeks.  Y’all have yet another chance to taste Wells Guthrie’s highly touted wines at K&L on Thursday.

Fri., Apr. 15: Sicilian Wine and Cheese Pairing at SF Wine Trading Co. (West Portal)

SF Wine Trading Co.
250 Taraval
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 8:00pm ($10)

Farina‘s wine director (Alex Finberg Farina) [and currently with Farm Imports] will guide guests through Italian wine and cheeses this Friday.  No word on the lineup of wines, but am hoping there will be some Occhipinti, COS, and Tenuta delle Terre Nere — some of my favorite Sicilian producers.

UPDATE (4/14/10):  Great lineup, and prayers have been answered for the Occhipinti and Terre Nere!  Here’s what’s scheduled to be poured on Friday:

2009 Occhipinti, white IGT SP68, Sicily

2009 Tami by Occhipinti, red IGT Frappato, Sicily
