Are you still on your “Giants High?”  Hope so!  Looking for more reasons to celebrate?  The 2010 harvest is well underway, if not complete, for most wineries.  And please take a moment to remember our country’s veterans on Thursday.  Here are a few suggestions for events this week, including some good options for short weekend ventures off the peninsula:

Wed. Nov. 10:  Brown Family Estate at FPWM (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:30pm – $32 for flight of 5 wines

Coral and David Brown will be on hand at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant to tell their story and present their tasty wines!

Thurs. Nov. 11: Fundamentals of Wine & Food Pairing class (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

6:30pm – 8:30pm – $65

Class will be held in the Port Comission Hearing Room on the Second Floor of the Ferry Building.  The instructor is Peter Granoff; the class will look at how basic elements in wine and food reinforce, detract, ignore, or transform each other.

Thu. Nov. 11: Domaine Serene Tasting at Solano Cellars (Albany)

1580 Solano Ave
Albany, CA

6:30pm – 8:30pm

The national sales manager from Domaine Serene will be pouring current releases and unveiling new vineyard designates in a sit-down tasting of some fine wines from Oregon.

Fri. Nov. 12 thru Sun. Nov. 14:  Great Wine Escape Weekend (Monterey)

Participating Wineries
Monterey, CA

Times and prices vary

If you’re looking to get out of the city this weekend, it’s a “grape” time to head south to Monterey.  Various events daily; more info here.

Nov 13: Harvest Rocks 2010 (Alameda)

Rock Wall Wine Company
Alameda, CA

3:00pm – 7:00pm: $60 in advance (Enter the discount code “pumpkin” to receive $15 off the regular $75 price)

Join Shauna Rosenblum (yes, of those Rosenblums) for “a fun, all-access look at winemaking from grape to glass. A special food & wine event, the festivities feature a comprehensive tasting of the Rock Wall wine portfolio as well as other unique activities, symposiums and interactive demonstrations.”  Derek met Shauna and tasted some of her wines at the Family Winemakers Tasting back in August; she has some great Zins and Petite Sirahs!

Sat. Nov. 13 thru Sun. Nov. 14:  Silverado Trail Silver Pass Weekend (Napa)

Participating Wineries
Napa, CA

11:00am – 4:00pm daily:  Online advance sales – $40 (one-day) or $65 (both days)

Be sure to visit Piña for their delicious single-vineyard Cabernets, as well as Hagafen, Signorello, Crushpad, and others!
