By Derek Mims

So we took last week off as Derek’s oldest son celebrated his third birthday and we prepped our Halloween costumes.  Oh, and we did spend a little time watching the Giants!  If you’re looking for “vin-ues” for celebrating, here are some wine events going on this week.  Depending on how the elections turn out tomorrow, there will either be more celebrating or some sorrow-drowning. Either way, enjoy!  And don’t forget to VOTE!

Wed. Nov. 3:  Bordeaux Tasting at FPWM (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:30pm – $47 for flight of 5 wines (mostly 2005 vintage, but also a 2000 Chateau La Clemence, Pomerol)

Sample some classic French wines with the help of the folks from Wine Warehouse.  FPWM rep’s “designed the evening’s flight to demonstrate the different terroir of the best neighborhoods in Bordeaux; St. Estephe, St. Julien, Margaux, Pomerol, and Pauillac.”

Thu. Nov. 4: Meet the Winemakers at Press Club SF

20 Yerba Buena Lane
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 10:00pm: Admission is Free

“Join us and listen first hand from our 6 esteemed winemakers about this year’s harvest.  They will be here to share their 2010 harvest experience.  In addition, the winemakers will also be bringing soil samples to touch, raw juice to taste, and stories to hear from the winery to make you feel like you were part of this year’s harvest!”

Thu. Nov. 4: Joli Vin (Arlequin Wine Merchant)

384 Hayes Street
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 8:00pm: $15

Joli Vin is an importer of French wines; they will showcase some selections from Burgundy, Jura, Beaujolais and the Rhone.  A good opportunity to learn about these different regions and the effects of terroir on their wines.

Fri. Nov. 5:  An evening with Napa Valley Vintners at FPWM (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:00pm – $50 general admission tickets; wines from NVV and small bites from Ferry Bldg shops

Sample vinos from 30 different Napa wineries, including Miner Family, Revana, and Corison.  Use the word “Club” as promotion code to buy discounted $35 tickets at fpwn.com

Nov 6: Gourmet East Bay (Walnut Creek)
