Wine Events: Week of Oct. 18

If you can’t make it up to wine country this weekend for Pinot on the River, you’re in luck.  It just so happens that San Francisco has a few wine events to go to this week.  Who knew?

Tues. Oct. 19:  Book Release party:  Secrets of the Sommelliers (SoMA)
302 Mission Street
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 8:00pm

Rajat Parr, sommelier at the Michael Mina group of restaurants, will be celebrating the release of his new book.  Stop by, try some wines, and meet Raj!

Wed. Oct. 20:  Robert Biale Tasting at FPWM (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:30pm – $28 flight of 5 wines

Derek swears by Biale’s Napa wines.  And thankfully, the good folks at FPWM are wise enough to make sure baseball fans (including Robert Biale himself) don’t miss out on the Giants game:  they’ll be showing it on the big screen at the bar.

Thurs. Oct. 21: Louis/Dressner Selections at 18 Reasons (Mission)

18 Reasons
593 Guerrero
San Francisco, CA

7:00pm – 9:00pm – $15 non-members; $10 members (HINT: get an 18 Reasons Membership.  You won’t regret it)

As if you needed a good excuse to try some low-production old world wines made “au naturel.”   Let the folks at Bi-Rite and Farm Wine Imports be your guide as you taste through a selection of wines from Louis/Dressner selections.  Seriously, these guys were at the forefront of bringing natural wine to the U.S., so you have to give them some props.

Thurs. Oct. 21: Jose Pastor at Arlequin (Hayes Valley)

Arlequin Wine Merchants
Hayes Street
San Francisco, CA

6:00pm – 8:00pm – $15

Make it a wine-event double header and get on over to Arlequin post-18 Reasons.   Importer Jose Pastor will be showing off his latest offerings of wines from Spain. Si se puede!

Sat. Oct. 23:  Terry Theise at FPWM (Embarcadero)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
San Francisco, CA

11:00am – 2:00pm – $14 flight of 3 wines

If you haven’t been exposed to the mad genius that is Terry Theise, then you’re in for  treat.  Terry is the person in the know for Austrian and German wines.  Plus he’s an all-around interesting guy.  Shoot, he  would eat that dude from the Dos Equis “Most Interesting Guy” commercials for lunch.  Join Terry and the folks at Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants as they celebrate his book, Reading Between the Wines.

K&L Wine Merchants

Sun. Oct. 24:  K&L Champagne Fest (SoMA)

638 Fourth Street
San Francisco, CA

2:00pm – 5:00pm – $75 (get tix in advance)

I’m hoping the bubbles will be poured in honor of a Giants World Series.  And if the home team doesn’t make it, this is a fine way to drown your sorrows.  Join K&L as they pour over 50 bubblies for your enjoyment.
