Wine Events: Week of Oct. 4

Leave a comment

Gotta love that October is here, harvest is in full swing, and the Giants are in the Playoffs.  This weekend will be, in a word, awesome.  But it’s all just a warm-up for next week’s Wine & Spirits Top 100 Tasting.  Blogger extraordinaire Alder Yarrow of Vinography says “it is one of the best public tasting events in San Francisco each year, and usually has a few gob-smacking, head-banging, utterly fantastic wines mixed in with a whole lot of truly excellent ones.”

This event tends to sell out, so best to get your tix early.
Wednesday, October 13, 2010
6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
SF Design Center (SoMa)

101 Henry Adams Street
San Francisco, CA 94103

Tickets are $105. A limited number of VIP tickets are available for $125 that provide advance entry (at 6 PM).   Go here for tix.

* 2008 Coquelet Chiroubles Vieilles Vignes
* 2007 De Moor Bourgogne Chitry

* 2009 Puzelat KO Rose

Sat. Oct. 9: San Francisco Magazine’s Fall Fest (Embarcadero)

Justin Herman Plaza
San Francisco, CA

12:00pm – 4:00pm – $95 in advance (tix here)
(NOTE:  Eater SF has discounts for newsletter readers, knocking the price down to $80).

This annual event turns out some great restaurants and wineries for a day-long shmorgishborg.  Some good wineries on this list, including Round Pond and MacRostie, plus wine seminars by NOPA’s Chris Deegan.  Plus, proceeds benefit Meals On Wheels of San Francisco (Friends of MOWSF can also save $15 on tickets by using the code: MOWSF. Tickets must be purchased by October 7).

Thomas Keller is well known for French Laundry and Per Se, but his casual, neighborhood restaurant Ad Hoc is just as popular.  Join this block party servin’ up finger lickin’ good fried chicken, baby back ribs and (oh yes) wines from the likes of Copain, Ridge, Storybook, Scholium Project, and many others.  Bonus:  profits go to Clinic Ole, an organization that offers Napa County ag workers with access to health care.  Call 707-944-2487 for tickets and more information.
