Wine Events: Week of August 16

August has been an epic month for wine events — and the fun is just beginning.  Below are some highlights for this week, and its all just a warm up for

San Francisco Natural Wine Week.

Wed. Aug. 18:  K Vintners @FPWM (FiDi)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:30pm – $30

Syrah fans rejoice — Washington winemaker Charles Smith is bringing his K Vintners wine (and his crazy coif) to San Francisco for a night of tasting.  Smith was last year’s Food & Wine Magazine’s winemaker of the year — the first Washington winemaker to earn that title.  What’s all the hype?  Stop by to find out.

“It’s just booze…..drink it!” – Charles Smith

Thurs. Aug. 19: Small Production Cheese and Wine Pairing @ Solano Cellars (Berkeley)
Solano Cellars
1580 Solano Ave.
Albany, CA

6:30pm – $35 reservations highly recommended (can be made here)

Kirsten Jackson is the founder of “It’s Not you, It’s Brie” blog, Solano Cellars wine bar manager, and an instructor at SF Cheese School — in other words, she’s the the perfect person to lead you through some artisan cheeses and small production wines.  According to the host:  “Eight cheeses, five wines, and a lot of happy faces.”  Hard to beat that combo.

Sun. Aug. 22:  Family Winemakers’ Tasting (Fort Mason)
Fort Mason
San Francisco, CA

Grand Tasting:  3pm-6pm – $55 before Aug. 21, $65 at the door (click here for tix)

A ridiculous number  wineries will be showing off their juice this weekend — thankfully, you’ll have Sunday night to wear off your hangover before heading into the office on Monday.  While there are some well-known names at this event, the real joy is finding the smaller production spots which you are unlikely to be able to find at your local shop.  Explore – Enjoy!
