Wine Events: Week of June 21

There’s no way I can make it to all these events this week, but wow, what a great line-up.  Hope to see some of you on Sunday at Pinot Days! Oh, and later this week, I’m happy to announce, I’ll be introducing you to my friend Derek who will also be writing on this blog, and help make sure we cover more wine-related events and sites in and around the Bay Area.

Tues. June 22:  M. Chapoutier  Tasting @FPWM (FiDi)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA

5:30pm – 7:00pm – $25

Unreal line up of producers showing up at FPWM this week.  Old world wine fans will be treated to M Chapoutier’s collection of rare and highly sought wines.  $25 gets you 6 tastes, including a pour from a $250 bottle of 2007 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Rouge, Le Pavillon.

Thurs., June 24:  Azienda Agricola COS @ Arlequin Wine Merchants (Hayes Valley)
Arlequin Wine Merchants
284 Hayes Street
San Francisco, CA

Time: 6pm – 8pm – $20

Scrumtious wine from one of Siciliy’s top producers.  Oh – and they put the goods  in funky, squat bottles.  Gotta love it.

Sat. June 26:  Banshee Wines @ Vintage Berkeley (Berkeley)
Vintage Berkeley
2113 Vine Street
Berkeley, CA

Time:  1:30-3:00pm – FREE
(Also at Elmwood  location starting from 3:30-5pm)

If you read this blog regularly, you know I have a soft spot for young wine makers who have taken some risks but still manage to put out  quality wine in this difficult economic climate.  Enter Banshee – a collaboration of three guys with loads of wine industry experience, sourcing grapes from top vineyards, and putting out good product.  Their first vintage includes pinot noir from Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast, and Santa Lucia Highlands, and they’ve gotten some high praise, including these reviews from K&L staff members. Now you get to try out the goods (including a not-yet-released grenache)!

Sunday, June 27:  PinotDays SF Grand Tasting@ Fort Mason (Marina)
Fort Mason for Grand Tasting and Other Venues
San Francisco, CA

There are a lot of fine events, and tickets are available online for you “Sideways” fans looking to taste a wide variety of domestic pinots.  The Grand Tasting is on June 27th, and features some really great wineries, including:  Hirsch, Domaine Serene, Failla, Goldeneye, Clos Saron, Sojourn, and Siduri.

Note also that there are a number of events during the week, including winemaker dinners, tastings at different retail venues, restaurants, and wine bars —Multiple Events:  June 16-27.  My favorite part o this lineup:  a wine maker dinner with Adam Lee of Siduri.
