Some suggestions for a boozy & tasty week! [SEE CORRECTION BELOW FOR 18REASONS START TIME]

Wed., June 2:  Hirsch Vineyards Tasting Class @FPWM (FiDi)

Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA

6:30pm – 8:00pm – $55

Hirsch put Sonoma Coast pinot noirs on the map a while ago, but over the past year, they gained cult status after President Obama ordered a bottle of 2007 Hirsch Sonoma Coast Pinot a NYC date night.  Now you can break down exactly what POTUS and FLOTUS were swooning over during this unique educational class,  discussing  the terroir components of different wines sourced from Hirsch Vineyards, including pinots from Littorai, Kosugue, and Failla.  Titled “Examining the Dynamic Terroir and Various Components,” this is bound to be a popular wine geek-out.  More information here.

Thurs., June 3:  Test Your Wine IQ @ 18Reasons (Mission)
18 Reasons
593 Guerrero
San Francisco, CA

Time:  CORRECTION: 6pm 7pm– 9pm – $5, 18 Reasons members; $10, general

Part Game Show, part educational wine experience, 18 Reasons is hosting a totally dorky event this week:  a blind tasting for you to figure out what varietal you think your tasting.  Knowing the selection at Bi-Rite, there’s sure to be some crazy funky stuff in the mix.  Good way to expand your wine knowledge!

Starts Thurs. June 3:  World Cup of Wines @ Vintage Berkeley (Berkeley)
Vintage Berkeley
2949 College Avenue
Berkeley, CA

Time:  7pm – $15
(Also at Vine Street location and Solano Cellars on different dates)

If you’re at all like me, you’re counting down the days until the World Cup kicks off.  What better way to celebrate than to take part in Vinatage Berkeley’s “World Cup of Wine” challenge.  Each week, this family of wine shops will host a battle of wines from different  growing regions.  Week One pits France vs. South Africa.  AND you can submit a bracket to wine some fabulous prizes.  Full schedule here.
