Wine Events: Week of May 24

Dear Friends:

I’m sorry for being out of touch for so long.  Dont worry — it’s not you, its me.  Or rather, it’s the fact that my day job has started getting in the way of my writing.  But don’t fret — I’m back, AND looks like I’ve found a co-writer who will help make sure we get out our weekly listing of wine events, and also round out our content.  More soon.

But enough about me — let’s get to this week’s line-up (and here’s to a fun-filled Memorial Day weekend!)

Wed.. May 26:  Siduri Wine Tasting @ FPMW (FiDi)
Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants
Ferry Building

San Francisco, CA

4:30pm – 7:30pm – $23 (5 pours)

During the winter, my ski house celebrate Open That Bottle Night.  A good friend brought a bottle of Siduri pinot.  We opened it.  It was good.  It was oh so good.  I want to hop in a time machine and go back to that post-ski, pre dinner wine tasting and pour myself another glass.  Short of that, you’ll find me at the Ferry Plaza for this Wednesday’s tasting of Siduri wines.  If you’re a fan of domestic Pinots, this will be a real treat:   this Sonoma based winery  makes single-vineyard sourced from some of the best vineyards in Southern Cal, Northern Cal, and Oregon.  They’ll be pouring 3 pinots, 1 gewurtz, and 1 syrah.  If I’m not at work on Thursday, you’ll know why.

K&L Wine Merchants

Sat. May 29:  Domestic Syrahs / Rhone Blends at K&L Wine Merchants (SoMa)
K&L Wine Merchants
638 4th Street
San Francisco, CA

Time:  noon – 3pm – Price TBD
(Also at Redwood City location from 1-4pm)

If you’ve followed the wine press, you’ve probably noticed that some of the most interesting and well priced wines in the U.S. are syrahs and other Rhone-based varietals (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, to name a few).  Lucky for us, one of the best wine shops in the area is hosting a tasting of domestic syrahs and Rhone blends.  Not sure what the line-up s going to be, but I know K&L stocks Washington-based producer Owen Roe, California’s Copain, and Berkeley’s up-and-comer, Donkey and Goat.

Sat. May 29:  Wines for the BBQ @ Vintage Berkeley (Berkeley (duh))
Vintage Berkeley
2113 Vine Street
Berkeley, CA

Time:  1-3pm
(Also at College Ave location from 3;30pm-5:30pm)

Just what you need to officially kick off the summer:  a tasting of wines for you to pair with that big ol’ tri-tip, those tasty burgers, and whatever else you care to throw on grill.
