Bi-Rite Spring Wine Blitz: Mm-mm Good.

If you thought you needed to go to a wine super store like BevMo! to get good deals on wines, think again.  Some of the highest quality, value wines can be found at your neighborhood wine stores.  Case in point:  the Mission’s Bi-Rite Market.

Twice a year, Bi-Rite hosts a “Wine Blitz” — allowing customers to mix and match a case of wine, get a 20% discount, and benefit from free delivery in SF.  Last November, I stocked up on an assortment of wines for my Thanksgiving and winter holiday parties.  This time around, I’m stocking up for  summer barbecues and dinner parties.

Bi-Rite’s Wine Blitz is this upcoming weekend, May 20-23, 2010.

I sampled a lot of the goods this past Friday at  18 Reasons, which poured 18 of Bi-Rite’s hand selected wines.  Let’s just say it was a boozy and delicious way to start off Bay-to-Breakers weekend.  The real surprise was that almost all of the wines were under $20 — a really amazing price point especially when you factor in the high quality and diversity of the wines there.

Here’s a peek at some of the wines I plan on buying this time around:

2004 Domaine Du Deffends Clos de la Trufferie ($18.19) – This wine came highly recommend by Trac (Bi-Rite’s wine buyer), and it did not disappoint.  I had visions of grilled lamb chops while I was sippin’ on this Syrah-Cab blend.  Pretty sure I’ll be pouring this at a barbecue or two over the summer months.

2007 Graci Etna Rosso ($18.39) – This funky red will be a big hit for your wine geek friends, though it might not please everyone in the crowd.  Well worth buying a wine or two to check out something a lil’ different.  Oh, and by the way – this minerally red was profiled recently in the SF Chronicle.

2007 Ridge Santa Cruz Mountain Estate Red ($31.99) – Pure deliciousness.  Man, I just took a sip, and let this wine linger.  And I unabashedly asked for a second pour during the tasting — just didn’t want to say goodbye to this one.  At $31, this “baby Monte Bello” is a steal.
