Wine Events: Week of March 21

You may have picked Kansas to win it all.  You may have thought Georgetown was a lock to make it out of the first round.  Shoot, you might have heard “Butler” and thought of Mr. Belvedere.  But regardless of how you’re doing with your bracket, you know that March Madness is in full swing.  And hears a few events that will make the week even more fun.

Wed. March 24:  Raj Parr at FPWM (FiDi)

4:30pm – 7:30pm – Flight of 6 wines $38

There are few wine stars in the restaurant world brigther and bolder than Raj Parr. Wine Director of the Michael Mina restaurant universe, and producer of his on wines, Parr Selections.  Today, check out his pinot noir, syrah, and chardonnay along with the wines that inspired Raj.

Sat. March 27:  LIOCO Wine Tasting @ Vintage Berkeley (Berkeley)

1pm – 3pm – FREE
3:30-5:30 at 2949 College Ave location-also FREE

Free wine?  Yes please.  Free deliciously good wine from Lioco?  Hells Yeah! Small  producer making interesting and well-priced wines including some more eccentric varietals:  Carignane, Petite Sirah, Grenache and Mourvedre.  AND a 2009 Wine & Spirits magazine winery of the year.  Oh, and yeah, the tasting is free!

7:30pm – 9pm – $20

All you wine geeks out there, join the folks from Vinos Unico, Blue Danube Wine, and Solano Cellars to try some out of the ordinary wines.  It all started as a bit of a dare.  Oh yeah – think you can name a grape I’ve never heard of?  I’ll take your Aragones,  and raise you a Trajadura.  How do you like them apples!

Sun. March 28:  Rhone Rangers Grand Tasting (Fort Mason)

2pm – 5pm – $65

One of the biggest public tasting of American-made rhone varietals.  Here are a few wineries to look out for:   Unti, Terry Hoage, skylark, east bay local JC Cellars, and Domaine Serene (top-notch purveyor of Oregon Pinot branching out to make Rockblock Syrah!)
