Wine Events: Week of Feb. 7

More SF Beer Week shenanigans this week, some fun stuff going down at the Ferry Building on Friday night, and Berkeley’s Donkey & Goat offers you to do some sippin’ and shoppin’….

Through Sun. Feb. 14: SF Beer Week (Nob Hill)
Many Locations

Mix it up and taste some beer this week.  Why?  Cause you can.  And if you’re feeling super awesome, double dose at these beer & wine events.

  • Tues. Feb. 9 Beer vs. Wine Pairing @ Bar Crudo (West. Add.) Five courses, each paired with one beer and one wine.  Make sure to bring cab fare with ya — you may not be able to drive home afterwards!  Check out the menu here.  Five Course Pre-Fixe Menu $95.00.  Duvel Reception at 6:30, Dinner 7pm.
  • Thurs. Feb. 11 Beer vs. Wine Cheese Pairing @ Bin38 (Marina) five artisan cheeses, eache paired with beers (from North Coast & Green Flash Brewery) and wines (selected by Bin38’s wine director).  This is a guided tasting and discussion, limited to 25 people, so RSVP by emailing don@bin38.com.

Mon. Feb 8:  Olson Ogden @ Cal Wine Merchants (Marina)
2113 Chestnut St.
San Francisco, CA  94123

6:00pm-9:00pm – (price TBD)

This is another winery that I’ve been meaning to try out for a while, in part because they source one of their Syrah’s from Unti Vineyards (one of my favorites places to visit in Dry Creek Valley).  They also make two different Pinot Noirs – one from Sonoma Coast and one from the Russian River Valley.  For a review of their wines, see the recent piece in The Examiner.

Fri. Feb 12:  Food From the Heart @ Ferry Plaza (FiDi)
Ferry Plaza
The Embarcadero
San Francisco, CA

5:00pm-8:00pm – free; tastes of wine $4 (from Napa Valley Vinters)

Kick off valentine’s weekend with wine, food, and salsa & tango dancing.  come down to the Ferry Building for this event brought ot you by Napa Valley Vinters Association and Slow Food San Francisco.

Sat. Feb 13:  A Donkey and Goat Tasting (Berkeley)
2323 B 4th Street
Berkeley, CA 94710

noon – 5:00pm – Free

With the whole “buy local” movement gaining momentum, you could do a lot worse than supporting this upstart Berkeley winery.  The husband-wife team behind these wines studied winemaking in France after leaving their tech jobs back in 2001  Now, they bring their learning to the Bay Area, and in their production of Syrahs and other Rhône varietals .
