Fundraisers for Haiti Earthquake Relief

Normally, I send out a weekly events update on Sundays, but wanted to give everyone an early edition to highlight events hosted by members of the wine industry to help those in need in Haiti.  I also encourage you to consider giving directly to the organizations providing much needed aid to earthquake victims.

Charitable Organizations: Sirona Cares Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Partners In Health and the American Red Cross.  THe descriptions below are provided by one of the hosts, Vinos Unicos:

Sirona Cares Foundation – Michelle Lacourciere of Pacifica directs this San Francisco nonprofit that helps support orphanages and schools in Haiti. She started her venture in 2008, after Haiti suffered through four hurricanes. Right now all proceeds raised go directly to the earthquake relief effort. Find out more about Sirona Cares support efforts at sironacaresblog.com

Doctors Without Borders – has already treated more than 1,000 people on the ground in Haiti following Tuesday’s earthquake, but the needs are huge. An inflatable hospital with operating theatres is expected to arrive in the next 24 hours.

Partners in Health – Partners in Health and its partner organization Zanmi Lasante have worked in Haiti for nearly twenty-five years, and today is one of the largest non-governmental health care providers in the country. PIH has a number of hospitals in Haiti and desperately needs donations to fund relief efforts.

America Red Cross – With estimates that as many as three million people may be affected by the catastrophic earthquake which hit Haiti Tuesday, the American Red Cross is releasing an additional $9 million for earthquake relief, bringing its total commitment so far to $10 million to support relief efforts in Haiti.

Donation Plan: Asking for suggested donations of $50 and preferred donations of $100 (or more).  Checks only — checks should be made out to the foundation of your choice, and 100% of monies raised will go to the organization

The following wine distributors are participating, and will be pouring over twenty wines.
