Wine Events: Week of Dec. 6

Lots and lots of holiday wine events going on around town, so be sure to keep checking back, as I’ll  be updating this list during the course of the week.  But here are some events I’m particularly excited about.  Enjoy!

Wed., Dec. 9:  Freeman Winery Tasting @ Ferry Plaza Wine Merchants (FiDi, SF)
4:30pm-7:30pm
One Ferry Building
San Francisco, CA

$28 per person (5 tastes)

Pinot & Chardonnay — that’s what Freeman does right.  In fact that’s what owners Ken & Akiko Freeman have dedicated themselves to.  Even though its first crush was only 7 years ago, Freeman has been recognized as one of California’s premiere producers.  Ken, Akiko, and winemaker Ed Kurtzman will all be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Broc Cellars

Sunday, Dec. 13:  Broc Cellars / Naked Lunch Holiday Tasting (Berkeley)
1pm – 5pm
805 Camelia Street
Berkeley, CA

$15 per person

Take up-and-coming local winemaker, add tasty vittles plus a dash of holiday merriment, and you end up with a great event.  Broc Cellars focuses small lots of rhone varietals (including Grenache, Syrah Mouvedre), and is led by the pride of Omaha, Nebraska, winemaker Chris Brockway.  These are great food-friendly wines, and the folks from Naked Lunch (the best darn lil’ lunch stop on Broadway) are more than up to the task (Please guys – bring some of those foie gras / duck prosciutto sandwiches!)

Oh, and of course, don’t forget Bi-Rite’s Holiday Wine Blitz weekend, running from Dec. 10-13. 20% off mixed cases of wine, with free delivery anywhere in San Francisco.

HINT:  If you don’t think you need a full case all to yourself, meet up with a friend or two, and split the case.  You’ll end up w/ 4-6 bottles, and STILL get the 20% off!

SUGGESTIONS:  Here are some bottles I recently picked up at Bi-Rite that I really enjoyed:
