UPDATE:  Just got word that K&L is hosting a California Cabernet tasting this Saturday with a very, very impressive line up (including Ridge’s Monte Bello Cab, Stags Leap, and Joseph Phelps Insignia).

K&L Wine Merchants

Saturday Dec. 5 – K&L Cali Cab Tasting
Noon – 3pm
$25 (tickets must be purchased ahead of time, and is limited to 30 people) – Click here

Line up:   2007 Philip Togni; 2006 Ridge Monte Bello; 2004 Dunn Howell Mountain; 2006 Joseph Phelps Insignia; 2006 Groth Reserve; 2007 Caymus Special Select; 2005 Stag’s Leap Cellars Fay; 2007 Vineyard 29 “CRU”

With some upcoming holiday travel, I figured I’d combine the next two weeks of wine events.  And Dec. 3 looks like a banner day forSF-area wine fans:  Bi-rite’s Holiday Wine Blitz Tasting goes head to head with Arlequin’s annual champagne tasting.  Lucky us!

Saturdays, from Nov. 28 – Dec. 19:  A Donkey and Goat Tastings w/ Local Artisans (Berkeley)
Noon – 5pm
2323 B 4th Street
Berkeley, CA 94710

Catch the urban winery bug and visit Berkeley’s A Donkey & Goat  to taste their wines for free, and maybe take care of some holiday shopping at the same time.  Local artisans from the Berkeley Open Studios will be on hand showing their wares. This lil’ winery has turned the heads of big-name reviewers for their Syrah.  Now its your turn to judge ’em for yourself!

Thurs., Dec. 3:  Bi-Rite Holiday Wine Blitz Tasting @ 18 Reasons (Mission, SF)
593 Guerrero
San Francisco, CA
I’ve previously proclaimed my admiration for Bi-Rite’s wine team and their ability to pick out some interesting wines for your holiday dinner party needs.  See post here.  This is your chance to taste their current favorites.  $10 per person ($5 if you’re an 18 Reasons member).

Thurs., Dec. 3:  Arlequin’s Annual Holiday Champagne Tasting (Hayes Valley, SF)
384 Hayes St
San Francisco, CA

One of the great things about New Years is bubbles.  Lots of bubbles.  Tiny bubbles.  I can’t quite do the math but my guess is that approximately one gazillion bubbles are involved when a place like Arlequin Wine Merchants decides to host an event pouring over 30 different types of champagne.  So come to the tasting to figure out which bubbles to buy for Dec. 31.  $50 in advance / $60 at the door.
